Sheldon Ripson founded and operates R5 Communications which provides strategy development, integrated communication, crisis management, content creation and consulting services to businesses in a wide variety of industries. Notable clients include Husky Corporation (oil & gas equipment manufacturing), Roeslein Alternative Energy (agriculture and energy), Flower and Fendler Homes (construction), Cutter & Company (financial services), TDK Technologies (information technology), and Gateway to Innovation (non-profit).

Prior to starting R5 Communications, Sheldon led numerous successful strategic planning and branding initiatives for major broadcast firms. In the Midwest markets of St. Louis, Indianapolis, Madison and Peoria, Sheldon executed research-based strategic plans to revitalize the quality, customer appeal and ratings at network affiliated television stations. Sheldon's teams delivered content that resulted in local and state laws being changed, received numerous honors including regional Emmy awards, earned high ratings and led to increased revenue. Indianapolis results are representative:

  • Late news moved from fourth place to second place within 12 months
  • Increased ratings 60-80 percent in key selling demographics
  • Regional Emmy award

Sheldon holds an MBA from Washington University in St. Louis, where he graduated in the top 20 percent of Executive MBA Class 39 in 2013 and was voted ‘Most Inspirational’ by his classmate peers. A central component of the program focused on business strategy in the global economy, with emphasis on key learnings immediately applicable to facilitate business value creation for the senior level executives participating in the program.

An accomplished journalist, Sheldon was a reporter, news anchor, and executive in seven Midwest cities. He interviewed and reported on a wide variety of people including presidential candidates, Nobel Peace prize winners, Fortune 500 CEOs, labor union presidents and entrepreneurs. He received his undergraduate degree at the Drake University School of Journalism and Mass Communication, where he was named Alumnus of the Year in 2006.
